This silver altar frontal consists of three panels depicting three scenes from the Bible: The Last Supper, The Sacrifice of Isaac, and The Fall of Manna
In 1680, the friars of the Order of the Servants of Mary commissioned the Flemish silversmith Arrigo Brunich to make the silver frontal for the high altar of the Basilica of the Santissima Annunziata to designs by Giovan Battista Foggini. It was completed in 1682 and placed in the sacristy so that it could be admired by the faithful and was officially unveiled on September 8, 1683.
This altar frontal is one of the most famous and widely studied examples of seventeenth-century silversmithing and was the key reference for the Baroque-style remodeling of the choir and presbytery.
